Have you ever felt attached to a colour?
Concept
I always found the colour orange underrated. After this thought progressed so did my obsession for this colour. This lead to this project. While I was making it, I realised my attachment with this colour goes back to my identity. After selecting the images I realised that México is full of orange. This brought sense to my connection with this colour, it reminded me of something.
Development
To express this feeling, I made 3 orange variations of the same image, letting the orange develop itself in different medias, such as original, full orange on transparent paper,
and grayscale in orange paper.
Meaning
This project is dear to my heart, accompanied by the question “How would you describe a colour to a blind person?” develops a feeling into a graphic representation.
Naming
The name Ñäñhu-Yahú comes from the indigenous tongue Otomí from the region in México where I’m from and means something like "flower of the sun," referencing the marigold, (or cempasuchil) a culturally significant and vibrant orange flower often used in ceremonies like Día de los Muertos.
